The Paleo Diet is Naturally High in Fiber

If you’ve been following the Paleo diet and lifestyle for any length of time and have shared your changes with friends or family members, you’ve probably been asked this question, “well then where do you get your fiber if you don’t eat any grains?!” People are astonished when they hear of a diet without the inclusion of all of those “heart-healthy whole grains” and further, many dietitians believe the Paleo diet unnecessarily excludes beneficial foods from the agrarian revolution. So what is the answer? Where does the fiber come from in a typical Paleo diet?

The example shows the fiber intake to be 33g which is well within the recommended fiber guideline of 20-40g per day. The example used is one of many of the healthy Paleo options available. Eating a Paleo diet is truly easier to implement than many tend to think. It is a mindset and a lifestyle change, not simply another diet with strict guidelines to follow. Get fiber from real, whole food

When following the Paleo lifestyle you get your fiber from your fruits, veggies, and tubers. You get fiber from real food in its natural state. You can also get fiber from fermented vegetables such as sauerkraut and pickles, but take note, these fermented vegetables are best when they still maintain their active and natural enzymes intact. My favorite pickles and sauerkraut are Bubbies! The Paleo diet is unique because it allows for, and encourages, the consumption of healthy fats such as avocados, coconut, nuts, and nut butters which promote regular bowel movements. These fats combined with vegetables such as broccoli, leafy greens, brussel sprouts, squash, onions, and cauliflower; tubers including sweet potatoes and plantains; and fruits including berries, pears, mangos, apples, and dried figs all yield a high fiber intake. These food items combined with healthy Paleo lifestyle including exercise and purified water will lead to a healthy gut without the need for filling grains.
