Stability of the lower spine/core is just as important. This drill helps to stabilize the deep muscles surrounding the spine while in full hip flexion and extension in preparation for movement.
This drill reinforces the engaged core that is crucial to movement so look at this as a qualifier for dead-lifts and loaded squats. If you pass this test, you can start working with loads.
