AIP/Paleo Chicken and Dumplings
One of my absolute favorite comfort food dishes is Chicken and Dumplings. I love the way the broth is thickened by the dumplings and the way the dumplings puff up and soak up some of the broth. In all honestly this is probably the best Chicken and Dumplings I have ever had, including my pre-paleo days. Our executive chef is amazing; I asked her to come up with a paleo recipe and this is what she created. She even took the idea further making it AIP (Auto-Immune Protocol). The addition of turmeric turns the broth a rich golden yellow and provides additional healing health benefits. The soup part freezes well so make a big batch and store leftovers for those days when you need a little healing, culinary love. Clean ingredients and easy to make, this is real-food done right.

Has this recipe been tested? Because it’s basically the same as the one from “Paleo Soups & Stews” http://meljoulwan.com/2016/10/25/paleo-soups-stews-simone-miller/ only it subs out coconut flour for the almond flour. And coconut flour to almond flour is not a one to one sub typically due to the different densities.
Hello, Tested as far as nutritional info? There were a couple versions prior to this recipe. Everyone here liked this version using Coconut, Cassava and Tapioca Flours for the dumplings. Their texture was great.
Did you use canned coconut milk? Thanks!
Hello, Yes we do! We use #10 cans and let it settle so we can use the heavy cream for some recipes if needed.
Very good soup and broth, but my dumplings fell apart during cooking, became mush.
Hi Ann; How long did you simmer the dumplings? We have heard from several people who have made this recipe and havent heard of them falling apart. You really only need to simmer them long enough to hear through, no more than five to ten minutes.
Can you include the nutritional information please? Apologies if I just missed it but I do not see it on the post. Thanks in advance!
Okay I have a confession…. I NEVER had chicken and dumplings growing up. I know. How did I survive?! Anyways, I wanted some comfort food, and something that was breadesque since it’s been a long time and I’m AIP. Long story short, I made this recipe, took the dumplings out from the pot and had to ask my hubby if they were supposed to look like that and how do I know they’re done?! He said they looked just like they’re supposed to (he grew up eating a lot of dumplings!) Okay, step one good. Then came the eating part, and I’m not saying they weren’t good but remember this is my first time with dumplings! I asked my hubby what the texture was supposed to be like. (Side note, he isn’t AIP and does have to be so he’s kinda sceptical that AIP even tastes good lol!) He said ‘let me try them’ and proceeded to say they were perfect, just like he remembered, (doneness wise) and even went so far as to say they were some of the best dumplings he’s ever had! So kudos to you Chris, and thank you!!

The Cassava Flour that is used in the dumplings is very high in carbs. I make this at home all the time and just use lots of different vegetables in place of the dumplings. The broth has such amazing flavor I dont miss the dumplings. Give it a try!
Hello,
Would water or almond milk work instead of coconut milk?
