We want to do a pistol fix in our ‘movement program’ because they give us a huge bang for our buck. In doing a pistol movement we improve upon and require:
1. Stability
2. Mobility
3. Symmetrical strength
We commonly underestimate the importance of mobility to perform a high demanding skill. We also underestimate the joint that should be thought of as the foundation of the building. The Empire State Building better have a gosh darn strong foundation because if that mountain of concrete and glass crashes down, it going to hurt. Same goes for the human body: the foot and ankle are our foundation and must be stable in order to allow for the upstream joints to operate correctly. In this example, Kelly has one tight ankle and all it takes is 3-5 minutes of mobility work to change her success in the pistol.
