Why Barefoot Training?

About ten years ago, the fitness industry initiated a trend in barefoot training that led to mass production of barefoot or minimalist-style shoes. The benefit of going barefoot or wearing minimalist style shoes is that it strengthens the muscles in your foot, especially in the arch. As Michelle tells us, when the brain issues a command to move it receives biofeedback from exteroceptors in the foot to ensure that the movement is going as planned.  Shoes and socks over time mess with this sensory and the foot begins to perform less and relies on shoes more.

A healthy foot is a strong foot, one that pronates less and is less liable to develop a collapsed arch or flat feet, and that’s not good! Check out Michelle’s video below on barefoot training and her tips for improved mobility and strength in your feet.
